scientific mind x artistic sensibility

UHIP is an initiative designed to promote interdisciplinary collaboration between science, technology, and arts. Its aim is to broaden cross-border interdisciplinary network of innovative thinkers and to cultivate rich foundation of the global culture in the 21century.

As a start-up program, we initiated Forum on Intellectual Unity, an international forum designed to engage the public in interactive communication among the world’s foremost experts from science, technology, humanities, and arts. The mission is to enhance public awareness of the impact of science on the contemporary culture and to provoke thought and discussion about the future of human intellect. It also aims to promote science as a tool for deepening our understanding of nature, a medium for uniting the people of different cultures, and the key to finding solutions to the global issues that need joint efforts of the international community.

We will hold international forums on December 8th and 9th, 2007 at Italian Institue of Culture in Tokyo. The world-renowned neurobiologists as well as experts from philosophy, humanities, and arts from around the world will discuss the subject of "Emotion, body, and Brain: Evolution of Human Intellect and Culture." During the forum session, an installation art work created by an emerging young Japanese artist in collaboration with a neuroscientist will be exhibited at the Institue's exhibition hall.
